""In the concept of the Universe, life and death are on the same level, on the same line, in the same hour. But between the two, there is somuch to be seen and done: let us try and discover this secret world of nature," writes Lucien Clergue in his Foreword. This body of work reveals human and animal symbols from life to death created by Mother Nature in a single area of only few acres on the Pacific Ocean border. Clergue was introduced to this area in 1971 by Judy Dater and Jack Welpott with Wynn Bullock as his initial guide through the world of Edward Weston. He returned for the next 12 years to photograph Point Lobos as a guest of Ansel Adams. During his initial visits, Clergue discovered new symbols of life and death which have been recurring themes of his career. Using these symbols to narrate what he refers to as "this bible in the rocks," Clergue takes the viewer full circle from the creation of life to its spiritual return to the Universe." Ref LPB0447
