GUY BOURDIN-V&A
"GUY BOURDIN". Collectif. Editions V&A Publications, Londres. 2003. Imprimé en Italie. in-8 carré, reliure cartonnée, demi-toilée marron titrée rouge. 172 pages.
"'I am a fleeting man. I don't like people to have ideas about me. I can be black and white, like life' was Guy Bourdin's characteristic deflection of an interviewer's questions. Asked on another occasion to explain his creative process, he answered ingenuously, 'I have never perceived myself as responsible for my images. They are just accidents. I am not a director, merely the agent of chance.' The image-maker, and Bourdin consistently referred to his work as the realizing of 'images' rather than 'photographs', situated himself in a Surrealist tradition - that of the artist as messenger from the subconscious, as the conduit for forces beyond logic or explanation. Bourdin's work defies easy analysis. Yet a review of his formative years suggests certain insights..." Philippe Gardner, The Formative Years.
