"Harry Callahan (1912-1999) was one of the most influential photographers of the twentieth century. A master of modernist experimentation, Callahan explored a range of themes – "nature, building, and people," as he put in 1975 – throughout his career, using a variety of techniques and approaches. Callahan once remarked, "You could have maybe a whole man's life in a body of photography." This book focuses on Callahan through his work – both his day-to-day photographic explorations and his resulting sixty-year career as an artist… Reproducing a host of previously unpublished images and documents, this volume juxtaposes select artifacts – such as contact sheets and negatives – with final images to explicate Callahan's photographic achievement. Harry Callahan: The Photographer at Work offers a rare glimpse into the creative process of an important and fascinating artist."
