INDUSTRIAL AMERICA 1940-1960
"INDUSTRIAL AMERICA 1940-1960" par Andreas FEININGER. Editions Dover Publications, New York. 1981. Grand in-8, dos droit, couverture souple cartonnée photo. 186 pages. Texte en anglais illustré de 173 reproductions photographiques noir & blanc, pleine page pour la plupart, d'Andreas Feininger.
"The 173 photographs in this collection originated between 1940 and 1960, documenting a period when American industry, spurred by the war effort to unprecedented heights of productivity, expanded almost explosively. This vital and aggressive force not only sustained an ever-expanding economy and provided the material necessities indispensable to win a war, but also, because of its often dramatic manifestations, lent itself particularly well to pictorial documentation. Although I had done a moderate amount of industrial coverage during the late Thirties, I became seriously interested in this fascinating field of photography only in 1942 when, thanks to the efforts of my friend Erwing Krainin, I was commissioned by the Office of War Information (OWI) to do a series of photo-reportages on various war industries... Many of the other photographs were taken by me on a multitude of assignments for Life, when I was employed as a staff photographer from 1943 to 1962..." Andreas Feininger. Ref LPB0445
