"The whirlwind of one lady's anatomy, and other eccentricities, is just the latest Mapplethorpe provocation in this ongoing series of provocative documents in praise of the Life of Riley. With a new, self-made woman available for all seasons, the shy pornographer has decided to take a series of carom shots off her revised femininity. Performers, who project from instinct, have always made the best living subjects for photos (stiffs, Lincoln, and the American Indian are hors concours - they don't play fair). Without Ms. Lyon's histrionic abilities for sass, spoof, impersonation, improvisation, parody, caricature, and charade, their joint picaresque novella might not be the "dance to a constantly surprising refrain" it seems to me to be..." Samuel Wagstaff.
