"...Fabian, a North Jersey native, was working as an engineer in Vermont in 1967 when he first began doing fantasy illustrations. Self-taught and a student of such fantasy masters as Virgil Finlay, Hannes Bok, Edd Cartier, and Frank Kelly Freas, Fabian did considerable work for amateur journals for some six years. When his engineering job was phased out in 1974, Fabian made a key decision to become a professional illustrator. He was forty-hour years of age at this time. He made his first pro sale that year to Galaxy Science Fiction. In the past five years, his work has appeared in most of the remaining professional SF magazines, in books, and in portfolios. Since 1975, he has annually been nominated for the top artist award by both the World Science Fiction Convention and World Fantasy Convention. In addition to his black and white work, Fabian has also done many color covers for books and expects to continue this type of work in the coming years. Fabian's future as an illustrator seems assured as the demand on his time and talents seems to increase with each passing years." Ref LIL0096
