"In the first decade of the twentieth century, public attention was drawn to Swedish poster art on two significant occasions. The first was in the leading journal Das Plakat; the second, during a week devoted to advertising art at the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm. Superlatives such as "splendid", "excellent" and "impressive" were used to describe the posters which were designed by artists who would continue to be active in the coming decades. The posters selected for this book were acquired over a period of 50 years. They present a multifaceted impression of a country during 100 years of its development, and are part of a huge and comprehensive collection, a would-be worldwide virtual poster museum.
