"Growing up in Washington state, I would have to say photography found me. My father owned and operated his own photographic studio, doing everything from portraits to weddings, even passport photos. It was his dream come true. It was there that I was first brought into the world of photography. My father gave me my first photo assignment when I was fourteen. He was working yet another wedding when, out of nowhere, he turned to me and said: "Sit in the balcony, set the camera at F:8 at one second, and, when they kiss, take the photograph." There I was: a voyeur in the balcony, alone in my world and, yet, also responsible for documenting the exact moment this couple's vows were sealed. I remember being both excited and a nervous wreck. It was that feeling of excitement I clung to and that I still love today. Over the years I've also developed a love of the collaborative process involved with producing images like the ones in this book, while I may have started out alone in the balcony, today I rely on the collective wisdom of a truly talented team of hairstylists, makeup artists, styling experts, assistants, and, of course, subjects."
