"…My approach is to catch stars by surprise. Rarely do I use a telephoto lenses. I prefer normal or wide angles and meet the stars face to face to record their reactions – it becomes more like candide portraiture. Today the industry has changed for the worse with too many P.R. agents, too much security, too many policemen and too many photographers. All these become obstructions in photographing celebrities at events… In the face of all physical, legal and moral attacks I have endured. I have survived and got the shot. In the end, that’s what counts, like millions of others living vicariously though seeing those many images, we all become voyeurs. That's the great thing about this magic art – an instant of time and place, frozen for posterity. It's genius; it's beauty that will remain long after I'm gone." Ron Galella, September 2004.
